HCC Party Planning Committee

Postby Sleveless on Sun Oct 25, 2009 11:22 pm

Hey Everyone!

Another year has gone by and the HCC is beginning to plan for it's second anniversary bash! This year, we are striking a partnership with Dalhousie's Office of Sustainability to secure a venue on campus. On top of this, we have been approached by the creators of a cycling documentary entitled Veer. Veer focuses on 5 residents of Portland OR, and how their lives are inextricably tied to the cycling social groups that they are a part of. This movie has had a lot of play time at other cities like Toronto, Vancouver and Victoria.

It's bound to be an INCREDIBLE movie!

We can't plan for this party without your help! Please drop me a line at stevebedard14@gmail.com if you would like to contribute to the HCC Party Planning Committee.

I hope to hear from you soon!

Another year has gone by and the HCC is one year older. Come out and celebrate with us! We will also be holding a Bike Trivia Round! So get a team of 10 ready for your chance to win some bowling and free blinkers!

Together with Dalhousie's Office of Sustainability, with MAJOR contributions from MEC, Bikes by Dave, Cyclesmith, Idealbikes, Bicycles Plus and other major supporters we will be showing the documentary film, Veer.

Veer explores America’s fast-growing bicycling culture by profiling five people whose lives are inextricably tied to bicycling and the bike-centric social groups they belong to. The film follows these characters over the course of a year, offering a behind-the-scenes look at their personal struggles and triumphs. Veer examines what it means to be part of a community, and how social movements are formed.

The trailer to Veer is available here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pu7ADd7s ... r_embedded

Cover is $3 for HCC members and $5 for non-members (however you get a free membership to the HCC to get super cool discounts for future events)! Cake will be provided by the good people from Sobeys in Bedford. Pizza provided by the Brick over Pizzeria on Spring Garden Rd (http://www.thebrickoven.ca/).

Thursday Novemebr 26th from 6PM to 9PM at the Killam Library on University Blvd., Halifax NS.

Door Prizes include:
- 2 memberships to Costco (Capital District Health Authority)
- 340g bag of Fair Trade, French Roast Coffee (JustUs!)
- A toque and Keychain, as well as a Toque, Keychain, First Aid Kit and some tools for your bike (Halifax Harbor Bridges)
- A TON of Free Strings of Bowling (Bowlerama)
- Bike lock and grip tape (Idealbikes)
- Socks and a ladies helmet (Bikes by Dave)
- 2 free 68-point tune-ups (Cyclesmith)
- $150 in Gift Certificates as well as a Camel Back, a Set of Panniers and multiple bike lights (MEC).

So bring a friend and come on out! Where else will $5 get you: Pizza, some cake, a movie and great door prizes?
